in tense

I think a lot about the present. Or..."The now" as Cesar Millan would say.

Well, actually...he would probably say something more in the lines of "Dogs live in the now"...but that's a whole 'nother tale.

Over the past few weeks, months...years?...I have shared with you the accomplishments that I've achieved by machine quilting, baking, mothering, home improving (rarely)...and crocheting. I do so enjoy the reward of making something -- or actually FINISHING something -- as much as the next person!

But if I only shared the goods with you...you would never think that I had any bads, right?

Well...I do. Or...did.

Wait. Actually, I still have this less-than-triumphant piece that was supposed to be a hat. I am keeping it. As a reminder. Of what was...and what can be.

Deep thoughts, eh?!

See...I messed up. Simple as that. I was having much too much fun just crocheting along...not bothering to halt even long enough see if the proposed hat would actually fit around my head, much less anyone else's.

So once I concluded that this really, truly, obviously was going to be nothing more than a failed attempt at a hat (which took about 3 days...honestly)...I tried frogging, as they say. (Rip it, rip it.)

Or, technically stated, I tried salvaging the yarn so that I could start over. Fresh. A new beginning. A new future for my yarn...and for my hat.

Ack! After an evening of first, patience...then total lack of it...collected thoughts...then a few choice words...I made an executive decision. I heard a voice in my head.

"Sometimes holding on to something from the past can cloud your thoughts of what brightness the future may hold."

In other words: "Move on Darcie," I told myself!

"It's only yarn. There is more where that came from!"

"Make something prettier...starting tomorrow!"

If it's wool you could felt it. Wind it in a tight ball and dunk it in really hot water. Probably would make a great pincushion. Lemonaid, anyone?
