call a therapist

Today is the day that I can finally come out and show some folks what I am all about.

Yes! Today is World Wide Crochet/Knit in Public Day!

Gotcha.

While I feel that I can definitely not call myself a doily maker (yet)...I do occasionally enjoy a few quiet hours of thread crochet.

In the photo above, I simultaneously used two strands of a lovely Italian wool thread...and crocheted around a common pebble.

Yes, a rock.

Now speed ahead a little with me...and you cannot fathom how tickled I was when I turned a page in the latest Interweave Crochet magazine and read the article about thread crochet...AND...drum roll, please...how to alter your steel hook to better comfort your wrists and grip!

Hurray! Thread crochet and wool felting all rolled into one?! How super is that!?!

Say what? Am I traveling too fast for you? Eek...I'm just so excited to share.

Okay. Here goes. It's very simple. (But some of the finer things in life are just that, right? Simple.)

In the photo above, I have just placed a few crisscrossing layers of fine wool roving on my work surface.

Next photo: I took the hook that I use most often in my thread crochet...laid a very fine, thin layer of glue on one edge of the roving...and then allowed the hook and glue to marry with the wool roving for just a few moments.

And then? I simply rolled it up as snugly as possible. But...there's more....

Of course, in the photo above, it is awaiting the crucial step of the actual wet felting.

That is a verb: Wet felting. And I do so enjoy it!

Minus the details and the fun and sheer enjoyment that I receive from sculpting the wool using mere soap...and hot water...some manipulation...and then more sculpting.

And perhaps more rinsing and repeating and sculpting. It's quite therapeutic if you ask me. And honestly...if you didn't ask me, I would probably just blurt it out to you anyway!

Voila. A delicately wrapped...hand wool-felted...thread-crochet hook...handle. Did you get all that? It's a handful, isn't it!

And my wrist is thanking me already.

Happy World Wide Crochet/Knit in Public Day...from me to you!

Cool! A crochet hook with a handle. I can crochet again! Now... if they can just come up with a sewing needle with a handle, my problems will be solved. :-)

The fact that you called this post "call a therapist" is very symbolic. To me, it seems like knitting is your mental anchor. That is very inspiring!
