no waiting required

This is exactly how I recently wrapped a graduation quilt/present to be given to a very special young lady. Just a feminine tulle bow. Fairly green of me, wasn't it? After all, the tulle was re-purposed....

Honestly though? It was not initially the environmental aspect that I was most concerned with. It was more the fact that I just could not wait for my sweet recipient to open her quilt! I wanted to see her reaction immediately.

She LOVED her red and black and white quilt! And I was tickled pink.

I pieced it very simply. That seems to be my life's mantra these days: Simplify.

I just bordered 8 1/2" squares of red and black/white fabrics with 1 1/2" strips of the opposing color. Stitched them all together...sans any borders. Longarm machine quilted the top with my Freehand Fancy Feathers. Machine sewed and hand stitched the binding. And voila`...a love lap sized quilt for an even lovelier young woman...on her way to college this fall.

And she is not even storing it away until then. She's using and enjoying it now...which is exactly what I wanted her to do!

Why wait for special occasions? Every single day is a special occasion in itself! Posted by Picasa

I love to give quilts like this, just wrapped in a ribbon. I usually use a strip of leftover fabric from the quilt to tie them up in. I've been asked to make a red and black quilt for my son's bed, so I'll be playing with these colors too! Beautiful quilt!

You are so right. Quilts only get better with use.

I love simply designed quilts! Mom and I made my niece a graduation quilt too and she's been using hers too. Nice when the recipients are thrilled to get them.

I, too, love it when someone appreciates the gift of a quilt. I have had one grandson who never even acknowledged the quilt I made for and sent him but that is the only one.

Love it so much, especially the bow and the label on the outside so she can see it first thing. I bet she is loving snuggling with it!

Perfect! Hopefully this quilt will enjoy many an outdoor concert, study sessions under big shady trees, and late night talks, all the while being a constant companion! Love it!
